Sot's Hole

Introduction

Sot's Hole is one of nine Local Nature Reserves in Sandwell. It is 5.5 hectares (14 acres) of ‘semi-ancient’ woodland, and includes areas of marsh, a small stream and a pool. It is most noticeable for the great display of bluebells in the spring.

The reserve is about a mile from West Bromwich and yet has remained relatively undisturbed for hundreds of years. It supports a very wide variety of wildlife species, including birds, animals, trees, and fungi.

Locally, the Reserve is sometimes known as Bunny’s Wood or as Bluebell Wood, no doubt because of the huge banks of bluebells which make such a glorious display in the Spring. In recognition of its value to wildlife and the local community, it was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 1996.
